En raison de la pr\u00e9sence de rayonnements neutroniques et gamma et des quantit\u00e9s variables de blindage d\u00e9j\u00e0 fournies par le f\u00fbt et le conteneur, il est difficile de savoir o\u00f9 placer le blindage et quel type de blindage utiliser. En outre, les limites du blindage existent souvent sous la forme d&rsquo;un poids et d&rsquo;une temp\u00e9rature maximum. Pour aider \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre ces probl\u00e8mes, l&rsquo;OPNL fait appel \u00e0 l&rsquo;expertise de son affili\u00e9, la Fondation de recherche PG, et au code MCNP. MCNP (Monte Carlo N &#8211; Particle) a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par le Los Alamos National Laboratory pour simuler des processus nucl\u00e9aires pour des applications telles que la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la criticit\u00e9, la conception de cibles d&rsquo;acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateurs, la conception de r\u00e9acteurs, etc. Le logiciel permet de cr\u00e9er des formes 3D et des spectres de rayonnement afin de produire de nombreux r\u00e9sultats, notamment des diagrammes en couleur de l&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation et de la dose (mRem\/h). Dans le cas du blindage de la cuve s\u00e8che, le conteneur, la cuve de transfert et la plate-forme de travail sont mod\u00e9lis\u00e9s dans un environnement 3D et une combinaison du spectre de fission de Watt et d&rsquo;un profil gamma est utilis\u00e9e pour simuler le combustible us\u00e9 vieilli. \u00c0 partir de l\u00e0, diverses combinaisons de blindage sont appliqu\u00e9es jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 ce que la solution optimale soit trouv\u00e9e. Cette capacit\u00e9 est un atout consid\u00e9rable pour la conception d&rsquo;un blindage complet. Les estimations de l&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation, en particulier avec des sources et des g\u00e9om\u00e9tries complexes, sont beaucoup plus pr\u00e9cises car elles tiennent compte de toutes les interactions d&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation importantes, y compris la diffusion et la production de rayonnement secondaire. En outre, le blindage peut \u00eatre augment\u00e9 l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il est le plus n\u00e9cessaire et r\u00e9duit, voire \u00e9limin\u00e9, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il n&rsquo;est pas aussi b\u00e9n\u00e9fique. Dry Cask n&rsquo;est pas la seule application de MCNP.
