Le plomb (Pb) est \u00e9conomique et offre d&rsquo;excellentes propri\u00e9t\u00e9s d&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation des rayonnements gammas. Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s d&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation du plomb ne sont surpass\u00e9es que par des mat\u00e9riaux exotiques et co\u00fbteux tels que le tungst\u00e8ne (W) et l&rsquo;uranium appauvri (DU) par exemple. Cependant, le plomb expos\u00e9 pr\u00e9sente des risques pour la sant\u00e9 et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9. En outre, les environnements industriels exigent une durabilit\u00e9 et une r\u00e9sistance sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 celles qu&rsquo;offre le plomb brut.<\/p>\n<p>Envelopper le plomb dans de l&rsquo;acier \u00e9limine les risques de contact avec le plomb, mais aussi de compl\u00e9ter les faibles propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques du mat\u00e9riau, tout en conservant ses performances d&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation. La r\u00e9sistance aux temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es et l&rsquo;enveloppe ext\u00e9rieure enti\u00e8rement en acier en font un produit id\u00e9al pour les applications de blindage permanent. L&rsquo;utilisation d&rsquo;acier de construction simplifie l&rsquo;analyse sismique 2:1 et \u00e9limine les probl\u00e8mes li\u00e9s aux puisards GSI-191 pr\u00e9sents dans les centrales nucl\u00e9aires am\u00e9ricaines.<\/p>\n<p>La conception et la fabrication de plomb coul\u00e9 dans de l&rsquo;acier est un d\u00e9fi. La coul\u00e9e de plomb fondu dans une enceinte en acier peut provoquer des d\u00e9formations et rendre difficile l&rsquo;obtention de tol\u00e9rances serr\u00e9es. L&rsquo;usinage apr\u00e8s la coul\u00e9e du plomb peut \u00eatre compliqu\u00e9e du fait de son poids \u00e9lev\u00e9.
